Weekend Wedding

29 Jun

Lately I’ve been pushing myself to take more photos (why is that difficult?). I got the perfect opportunity to take a lot at Saturday’s wedding of the daughter of our friends, Mark and Cheryl. Mark and Cheryl were some of the first people we met when we moved to Texas and much of the reason we felt so welcome. Saturday was a beautiful day for a lovely wedding, surrounded by family and friends, focused on Christ, elegant and joyous. Congratulations to Kara and Will!

Without further ado, get ready for photo overload.  Oh, and I think this wedding had some of the most stylish guests I’ve seen at a wedding.  These Texans know how to dress!

Photo Booth fun with Julie!

Fashion Expansion: Brogue Shoes

28 Jun

Or if you may, Oxfords.  In the spirit of expanding my vocabulary, I think I’ll use Brogue.  These are my current crush.  I’ve been seeing them paired with skirts, capris, and dresses and am finally ready to take the plunge.  I can’t model them for you since I haven’t decided which pair to purchase, but you can check out Sorren @ Classic Noise or Linley @ Dwelling & Telling for some good examples!  What about you?  Do you love ‘em, hate ‘em, love em’ on other people but don’t dare to wear them?  Let me know!

(1) Locale: $69.98

(2) Aldo: $34.98

(3) Free People: $68.00

(4) DSW: $49.95

(5) Target: $19.99

Design Consultation: Summer Weekends

27 Jun

One of the best things about summer fashion is that it’s meant to be easy. Especially in Texas, layers are unnecessary and often impractical. So when my friend, Elya, asked me for some ideas for easy, comfortable weekend wear, I knew summer was the perfect time to try it out!

Elya already has a great sense of fashion, but she was looking for some fresh ideas. Isn’t she lovely? Plus, she has such a cute family. She writes her own blog about many thoughts and musings, so you should go say hello to her!

Onward. I decided to use re-mixed accessories for these outfits since we all live on a budget. Let’s just say I may or may not be over my clothing budget this month…so Elya, you get the benefits of my current frugality.

P.S. Elya really likes headbands (see her post on it here), so I decided to incorporate a hair accessory!

{F21 Top, Old Navy Skirt, Aldo Shoes, Kohl’s Necklace, Target Flower Hair Pin, TOTAL: $68.43}

{Old Navy Top, Old Navy Shorts, Aldo Shoes, Kohl’s Necklace, Target Flower Hair Pin, TOTAL: $77.13}

{Target Dress, Topshop Belt, Aldo Shoes, Target Flower Hair Pin, TOTAL: $63.49}

If you bought all 3 of these outfits, the total would be $152.87. Not bad, right?

Guess what?

You’re not going to find me here today.  You’re going to find me HERE! Jessica from Splendiferous Inclinations invited me to do a guest post on a John Freida product! So go check it out!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Sunshine and Polka Dots

22 Jun

Guess what I found today?  This.  And This.  I’m pretty sure these two things are going to be keeping me busy for a long time.  Not that I take any of my own pictures.  Because I really don’t.   So what I’m really saying is that now I can do lots of reading and then tell John what to do.  I sense this will go well.  Right?

Since we take 95% of the photos around 7-ish pm, we may as well try to take advantage of the sun and flare effect.  The first photo is our first trial.

Laundry Day

21 Jun

I need to stop folding laundry in the dark.  I also need to stop getting dressed in the dark.  And lastly, I need to look at my socks prior to 2 o’clock in the afternoon.  Hope you had better luck getting dressed today that I did!

Weekend Fun: DFW Blogger Meet-up

20 Jun

Hope everyone was able to give a little extra love to the fathers in your life this weekend!  I know it made me wish I could have taken a trip up to Michigan to give my own dad a big hug!  I did have some fun on my own, though, at a DFW Blogger Meet-up.  We did a little shopping at Charming Charlies and had lunch together!  It was great to meet other local bloggers and hear their perspectives on life, blogging, and fashion.

I didn’t realize my wedges would make me an Amazon among these lovely ladies.  Hah!  Pretty sure this is the first time I’ve been the tallest in the group!  Guess I need to wear those wedges more often.

Some more photos from the day:

My purchase of the day.  I am such a sucker for hats!

P.S. This Target dress is so versatile!  I got it in a pattern, but Kendi and Liz work it in olive green too!

Goodbye to the Taurus

17 Jun

Welp.  We said goodbye to the good ‘ole Taurus.  Fairly surprised how sad I was watching the buyer drive away with the car. She’s been a good car…roomy, clean (thanks to John!), and reliable.  Gas mileage…could be better.  Now that I’ve doubled my commute to work everyday, we’ve been keeping our eyes open for a more fuel efficient vehicle.  Enter Yaris.  Our friends happened to be selling it, we happened to love it.  Oh, random question.  Anyone else sell their car on Craigslist?  We’ve now sold 3 cars that way.  It’s worked out great.

Also, had a minor freak-out when the buyer started the car, started driving away, and then stopping and called John…(Come on Taurus, please don’t break down right now).  Thankfully, he was just giving us our Toll Tag back.  What a nice guy!  Happy Friday!  I’m going to meet a bunch of DFW Bloggers this weekend.  Super excited!

Yea!  The construction project has begun!  (I do have to say, while long pants and boots are practical….they are hot in 100 degree weather!) Lucky for me, I wasn’t outside ALL day, but just a walk around the site will leave anybody sweating!  Now go check out the other great stylings with lace at Everybody, Everywear!

It's a Monday.

13 Jun

Happy Monday.  I wore this outfit last week to Lifegroup (aka Church Small Group).  We’re between studies at the moment, so John and I decided to use the evening as an opportunity for the group to get to know each other better (we happen to be the dictators leaders).  Turns out it was an opportunity for me to get to know John better.  We played a version of The Newlywed Game where you answers questions about your spouse.  I was asked “What piece of your clothing does your husband least like?”  Hmmmmm, I’m always SUPER fashionable (especially in my baggy sweatpants and tshirts), so I was at a loss.  John doesn’t always agree with my outfit selections, but to be honest, he’s not all that concerned about them.  So, I guessed…. “Skinny jeans?” figuring that they are a bit trendy and oh, I happen to be wearing them at the moment.  His response?  “Sometimes you wear big hair accessories and I don’t like them.”  Huh?  Did not see that one coming!  So now I will be nixing my idea to use the flower pin below as a hair pin.   I know you’re all terribly disappointed.

Hope you have a great week!  We just got our building permit for the new construction project I’m on (yea!!), so it should be an eventful week for me as we finally break ground!
