Munday.

24 Oct

Does anybody else wish that work weeks were 4 days and weekends were (at least) 3 days?  It seems like every weekend, there are so many priorities vying for my attention that something else falls by the wayside.  Okay, it’s always cleaning.  Cleaning always falls by the wayside.  At least I got to have coffee with a friend (and try on some corduroy pants!), visit the pumpkin village at the Arboretum, and chat with another friend (and her adorable baby!).  All in all, still a good weekend.  Just don’t ask my laundry or the vacuum cleaner.

Oh, and thanks to the wonderful comments in this post, I decided to keep the J.Crew chambray top I picked up.  Thanks, ladies–it was the right decision!  Great fabric and fit that will last for years.  Plus, it gave me yet another way to wear this dress as a skirt.

A Cool Breeze

21 Oct

I’ve started to pull items from my winter clothes bins!  It’s funny how each season I’m pleasantly surprised when going through the bins I had so carefully packed up several months before.  I always forget about so many items!  Not that I’ve really started unpacking the bins…oh no, I always start by pawing through them for several weeks until I finally find a Saturday to switch everything out in the closet.  Anyway, this outfit isn’t any winter items–I decided I need to pull out a summer tee to get some more wear in before packing it away (you know, in several weeks when I get around to it).  Happy weekend!  I’ve got too many fun things planned to sit in my closet this weekend!

Brrrr!  It’s cold enough to wear a coat!!

Fall Layers

14 Oct

I have long been inspired by the style of Blair over at Atlantic-Pacific.  Her ability to mix patterns and textures is amazing.  In looking through my closet today, I was inspired to add an extra layer to my own outfit for a bit more dimension.  It was fun and finally cool enough to try it out!  What about you?  Who are you inspired by lately?  (And no, it doesn’t need to be fashion related!)  Speaking of inspiration, I also attended a fashion show at Fort Worth Running Company this week….so fun!  I’ll be posting on it next week so stay tuned!

A day of rain

10 Oct

Remember that bridge that you’ve seen in some of my photos (here, here, here)?  Well, Texas finally got some rain.  LOTS of rain.  So here’s what it looked like today.  And yes, I did dress in gray in honor of the weather. It felt nice having a cool, cloudy, rainy day after so many months of heat and drought.  Praise the Lord for rain, even though my jobsite is going to be a mess tomorrow and it will probably disrupt pier drilling operations.  It’s still about time we got some rain!

In other news, I tried a gel manicure Saturday night.  I did zero research on it and got it on a complete whim.  I’ll let you know how I like it in a few weeks!  I don’t often get dark colors, but it’s fall , so why not?  Did you do something impulsive this weekend? Getting a manicure is pretty tame, so I bet you’ll beat mine!

Domestically Speaking

26 Sep

Had a pretty crazy Saturday night.  And by crazy, I mean John went to bed early (before 10 o’clock early!!) exhausted from traveling all week and mountain biking Saturday morning.  At that point, I hadn’t yet been awake for 12 hours on Saturday, so I couldn’t justify going to bed.  And then I did something I’ve never done before…stayed up until after midnight cleaning the house.  So yep, you can all be jealous of my glamorous life.  It was kinda fun seeing John wake up and realize the house was spic and span rather than the disaster it was when he went to bed.  Only 2 days earlier, in a sleep depraved stupor, I mistook deodorant for chapstick, so I’d say I’ve come a long ways this weekend.  Hope yours was even more fun.

TGIF

23 Sep

Guess who’s coming home today…?!

My crazy awesome husband.  He had to travel out of town unexpectedly this week (for work), and he’s coming back today!

In other news, I went running after work today, so no outfit photos…but then I realized I’ve now taken photos of most of my closet to use on Go Chic or Go Home, so I recreated it on paper, a.k.a. computer screen. The only item I haven’t yet photographed is my scarf (which is funny since I wear it constantly…enough to get me the nickname “Snoopy” at work…you know, because of this image).  I continue to adore pattern mixing, so I mixed 3 up top and kept the rest of the outfit neutral.  What patterns are you mixing right now?

Let’s Take a Ride

16 Sep

Did I ever tell you about our free Cruisers?  The old owners of our house told us we could have them after they moved.  Yeah, not gonna lie, it’s pretty awesome.  Well, except for the fact that I’m super awkward on them and can’t get the hang of pedaling backwards to brake.  John recently upgraded to a mountain bike and invited me out for a ride tonight so he could try out his new clip-in pedals.  It was the first cool, breezy evening in months, and the perfect end to a long day of meetings at the office.  Happy Friday!  Hope you all have a wonderful weekend–ours involves a wine tasting, so I know it’s going to be a good one!

Fall Anticipation

15 Sep

We may have hit Day 70 over 100 degrees Tuesday, but I’m moving right into a fall frame of mind.  Between the fact that I finally started running again, lit some fall scented candles tonight, and want to live in this cardigan, I’m forgetting about reality and enjoying the anticipation of chilly evenings and early morning runs where I (gasp) have to wear running tights.  Ahhhhh, bliss.

Bloggers Do It Better: Arm Candy

2 Aug

What better way is there to celebrate a birthday than by wearing a new dress?

How about by ALSO wearing a lovely Fossil watch (birthday present from John!) that I’ve been eyeing for awhile now?

It was the perfect addition for the latest Bloggers Do It Better: Arm Party challenge!  I started seeing the arm candy trend several months ago, and have been dabbling in it here and there.  It’s not practical for my job, but every time I see it, I love it, so I’ve really made a conscious effort to try it out when I can!  What’s your stance on bracelets?  Are you all about stacking up the bangles, do you like to keep it simple, or leave ’em behind altogether?

Oh, by the way, this is the dress I mentioned that I picked up on my trip to Fredericksburg.  It’s actually a Kariza (double-layered and reversible wrap-skirt, comprised of vintage, silk-blended fabrics) and I watched this video to figure out how to wear it!

So now you’re asking…what did I do for my birthday in this fabulous dress?  I spent the evening catching up with some great friends while wine tasting in Fort Worth.  It was the perfect, relaxing birthday I had been hoping for!

Look at that cake! What a masterpiece! Thanks, ladies!

Can you believe she's had 2 babies?! That's one hot mama. Love you Kelly!

The whole group...interestingly enough, they are all in my church small group, and I couldn't ask for better friends!
