A Cool Breeze

21 Oct

I’ve started to pull items from my winter clothes bins!  It’s funny how each season I’m pleasantly surprised when going through the bins I had so carefully packed up several months before.  I always forget about so many items!  Not that I’ve really started unpacking the bins…oh no, I always start by pawing through them for several weeks until I finally find a Saturday to switch everything out in the closet.  Anyway, this outfit isn’t any winter items–I decided I need to pull out a summer tee to get some more wear in before packing it away (you know, in several weeks when I get around to it).  Happy weekend!  I’ve got too many fun things planned to sit in my closet this weekend!

Brrrr!  It’s cold enough to wear a coat!!

Trench Coats

12 Oct

I have this thing for coats.  I think it’s the Michigander in me that just won’t let it go.  I’ve been used to so many years of wearing a coat for 6 months of the year that I’m always on the lookout for a new one.  However, I don’t buy a lot of coats.  How could I justify that?!  I live in Texas, where a winter jacket is pulled out twice a year…one of those times being to pack it up for a trip to Michigan.  Part of the reason for leaving my winter jackets in the closet is that my Michigan coats are super warm.  They have to be!  So maybe that’s what I need to do…get a coat that’s not so warm!  On that note, I’ve been perusing trench coats.  They’re such a classic silhouette.  Here’s a couple of my favorites so far:

Top (J.Crew $398)

Bottom (Anthropologie $99.95)

My favorite winter coat is from J.Crew.  In my humble opinion, J.Crew wool outerwear is the best around.  Hands down.  Mine has lasted for a good 7-8 years, continues to stay classic, and I still get compliments on how beautiful it is.  This particular J.Crew trench is way out of my price range, but isn’t that tulle on the inside adorable?  My inner ballerina loves it.

Anthropologie consistently has the most whimsical and detailed clothing around.  A bright red trench with a corseted back?  Stunning.  Red (along with black and khaki) are so classic to me as well.  If you’re not big into bright colors, you can call me crazy, but when has red ever been out of style?  It also happens to be on sale, so go snatch it up!  Do you already own a trench coat, or do you share my obsession with coats in general?

Scarf Swap: The Daily Fashionista

25 Jul

Last month, I came across a great post by Jessie at the Concrete Catwalk.  She organized a scarf swap among bloggers.  I happen to love, love, love scarves so I immediately signed up!  Jessie paired me up with Emily over at The Daily Fashionista, who has a great eye for all things vintage.  Emily sent me 2 amazing vintage scarves, and I thought I would share the first with you today.  It’s a large square cream silk scarf with blue feathers scattered on it.  I’m not sure how she read my mind…but I’ve been wanting something with feathers for awhile, and this is perfect!

Sole Sourced: Anthropologie

If you’ve been reading for awhile, you’ve seen me post affordable outfits that are from one store…because let’s face it—sometimes that’s all you have time for while shopping!  Typically, I’ve chosen inexpensive stores, such as Kohl’s or Forever 21 for these posts since it’s quite plausible to pick up an entire outfit under $100 from these stores.  Now, if you’ve been reading for awhile, you also know that Anthropologie is my favorite store.  I can’t afford to shop there except for the sale sections, so I thought that I’d bring you along for an Anthro shopping trip to prove that an outfit from their sale section can fit the bill.  In this case, it’s a little higher ($150), but to get truly unique, quality clothing, I think the slightly higher price tag is worth it!  (Plus, it just so happens to be my birthday month, and I got a coupon for 15% off…and coupons at Anthro are SO rare…I need to take advantage of it!)

Shorts:  $39.95 – Made in Rwanda (Interesting, right?)

Top:  $39.95

Necklace:  $19.95

Shoes:  $49.95

TOTAL: $149.80

So what do you think?  Check out the close-up pictures on the necklace.  It’s so lovely.  Personally, I’m completely obsessed with the top.  Do you like to shop at Anthro?  Are you going to make me jealous by telling me you shop in the regular section?

Re-Engineered: Anthro Chop Chop Outfit

18 May

I have to admit, when I saw this outfit at Anthro, I swooned. Pattern mixing and bright colors make it a great eclectic look. I decided to use it as a loose inspiration….I stress loose since, let’s face it, Anthro has some one of kind patterns and unique colors. Plus, I wanted to give it my own take. So, what do you think? Are you jumping on the bandwagon of pattern mixing?

 Anthro Chop-Chop Outfit (Total: $237.95)

Skirt (Forever 21): $14.90

Shirt (Old Navy): $11.99

Belt (Forever 21): $6.80

Shoes (Target): $29.99

Weekend Window Shopping: Anthropologie

9 May

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! I was fortunate to have my mom in town for this Mother’s Day. It was great to get the opportunity to spend the day with her, bumming around town having Sonic snacks and walking in the park. It’s hard living far from family, so I sure love it when they come to visit!

I haven’t done any shopping for awhile (so busy with home improvements!), so I decided to do a bit of window shopping at Anthropologie instead. I pretty much stick to their sale section, considering it’s all I can afford and / or justify. These are my current favorites…full of stripes, flowers, and flowing shapes. What are your window shopping favorites right now?

1 – Translucent Dolman Tee ($19.95)

 2 – Endless Horizons Top ($29.95)

 3 – Full Flourish Cardigan ($29.95)

 4 – Visionary Skirt ($19.95)

 5 – Paperbag Knit Crops ($29.95)

6 – Triumvirate Belts ($29.95) Three belts for the price of one?! Yes, please!

7 – Stacked Window Wedges ($229.95) Okay, fine. Still out of my price range. A girl can dream, right?

 8 – Curiosity Shop Necklace ($29.95)

 9 – Cloudscape Socks ($4.95)

Re-Engineered: Anthropologie “Habitat” Outfit

22 Feb

Okay, guys. I’m branching out. Technically, there’s no “key” piece in this re-engineered outfit. To be honest, I love the belt, but who wants to spend $38 on a green belt? Nevertheless, let’s move forward, because I love this Anthropologie outfit to pieces. And I really, really love the hat. Confession time—I’m a hat person. So now I have an excuse to buy a fedora. I don’t actually own a fedora yet, so here’s the perfect opportunity to go get one. Without further ado, here’s the original Anthro outfit:

Anthro “Habitat” Look (Total: $352 excluding shoes)

Here’s my less expensive version with an added pair of shoes, which are another obsession of mine. I wanted some espadrilles this summer, and Target just happened to oblige with a peep toe version. They come in several colors, and any color would work with this outfit, so just pick whatever works with the rest of your wardrobe. If you’ve read about me, then you know I couldn’t wear this outfit to work, but I figure a girl’s got to have a weekend, right? As always, I love you for commenting. Have a great Tuesday!

TOTAL: $148.37 (INCLUDING shoes!)

Dress (Kohl’s): $45

Sweater (Ann Taylor LOFT): $44.50—on sale for $33.38

Belt (Roxy): $16

Fedora (Nordstrom): $29

Shoes (Target): $24.99
