Fall Trends: Corduroy Pants

17 Oct

Personally, I think cords are a trend every year.  So it’s interesting to note that I don’t own any pairs.  I know I did at one point…wonder what ever happened to those?  Hopefully I gave them to Goodwill so some other lovely lady is enjoying them right now.  Anyhow, I’ll be keeping my eyes open for a pair this season.  I’ve mentioned it before, but pants are difficult for me to find in a good fit.  They are something for which I’m willing to pay full price and get alterations.  An ill-fitting pair of pant on someone can ruin an otherwise great look (I know I’ve been guilty of that on several occasions!).  I’m hoping to sneak in a shopping trip to try on some of the styles below and *hopefully* find at least one style that fits!  What about you?  What piece of clothing are you willing to pay up for to find in a good fit?  What’s your favorite style below?  Personally, I think a bootcut cord will withstand the test of time but those skinny cords sure are cute…!

Fall Layers

14 Oct

I have long been inspired by the style of Blair over at Atlantic-Pacific.  Her ability to mix patterns and textures is amazing.  In looking through my closet today, I was inspired to add an extra layer to my own outfit for a bit more dimension.  It was fun and finally cool enough to try it out!  What about you?  Who are you inspired by lately?  (And no, it doesn’t need to be fashion related!)  Speaking of inspiration, I also attended a fashion show at Fort Worth Running Company this week….so fun!  I’ll be posting on it next week so stay tuned!

There is just something about khakis, a button-up, and a jean jacket that will always work.  I bought this jean jacket several years ago, and it’s been a great investment.  Never mind that it was 100 degrees today.  I still needed a jacket inside!  So, what’s your go-to look?  I’m always looking for more ideas on how to rock classic looks!  Send me an email at engineeredstyle (at) gmail (dot) com with your look!  I’d love to feature some other lovely ladies for a change!

P.S. I’ve been sportin’ the center part the last couple of days thanks to this rockstar.  It’s nice to try out a (super) old style from high school.  But thinking back on how oh-so-long-ago that was makes me wonder if I should surfer-roll my jeans now too.

Weekend at the Ranch

16 May

John and I were introduced to a REAL Texas ranch this weekend. We celebrated a friend’s 30th birthday with barbeque, a bonfire, and some great music. It reminded me that I really need to get some cowboy boots, and maybe even a hat to top it off. John is not so excited about those prospects…but come on, we’ve been here 4 years!

Here’s a glimpse of my casual Friday look.  Am I the only one who thinks that skinny jeans feel like sweatpants? I love them, especially to kick off a relaxing and fun weekend. What’s your go-to casual look?

Everybody, Everywear: Florals

10 May

Random question of the day: Do you close your eyes when you sneeze? I do. Does everyone? I ask this because with all these allergies, I often sneeze on my drive home…and subsequently close my eyes for a split second while driving. I know I’m crazy, but it makes me nervous because I drive with other crazy Texas drivers on very busy freeways! Anyway, I assumed everyone closed their eyes when sneezing, but then I remembered that my soccer coach always called me out on closing my eyes when heading a ball—apparently not everyone does that! So now it’s got me wondering…

Anyway, I decided to join in this month’s Everybody, Everywear. I picked up this floral shirt for a steal at Banana Republic. It’s ended up being a great purchase. I’ve been able to remix it in several ways already. Enough about that, check out how everyone else is wearing it at Everybody, Everywear!
