A Cool Breeze

21 Oct

I’ve started to pull items from my winter clothes bins!  It’s funny how each season I’m pleasantly surprised when going through the bins I had so carefully packed up several months before.  I always forget about so many items!  Not that I’ve really started unpacking the bins…oh no, I always start by pawing through them for several weeks until I finally find a Saturday to switch everything out in the closet.  Anyway, this outfit isn’t any winter items–I decided I need to pull out a summer tee to get some more wear in before packing it away (you know, in several weeks when I get around to it).  Happy weekend!  I’ve got too many fun things planned to sit in my closet this weekend!

Brrrr!  It’s cold enough to wear a coat!!

Fashion Expansion: Pleats

21 Jul

You may remember that my summer wishlist included a pleated skirt.  I haven’t purchased it (yet), but I continue to be enamored by all things pleated.  I suppose it’s the girly-girl in me that swoons for flowy yet refined shapes.  So, for your enjoyment (and mine!), I thought I would give you some ideas on how to jump into this style…whether it be with allover pleats, or just a few tucks here and there.   Personally, I’ll probably stick to pleated skirts and dresses.  For those of us blessed with ample derrieres or hips, I’ve found that the pleated shorts have a tendency to draw attention to the area while flowy skirts or dresses will complement it.  How about you?  Have you jumped on the bandwagon, or are you sitting this one out?

It’s a Monday.

13 Jun

Happy Monday.  I wore this outfit last week to Lifegroup (aka Church Small Group).  We’re between studies at the moment, so John and I decided to use the evening as an opportunity for the group to get to know each other better (we happen to be the dictators leaders).  Turns out it was an opportunity for me to get to know John better.  We played a version of The Newlywed Game where you answers questions about your spouse.  I was asked “What piece of your clothing does your husband least like?”  Hmmmmm, I’m always SUPER fashionable (especially in my baggy sweatpants and tshirts), so I was at a loss.  John doesn’t always agree with my outfit selections, but to be honest, he’s not all that concerned about them.  So, I guessed…. “Skinny jeans?” figuring that they are a bit trendy and oh, I happen to be wearing them at the moment.  His response?  “Sometimes you wear big hair accessories and I don’t like them.”  Huh?  Did not see that one coming!  So now I will be nixing my idea to use the flower pin below as a hair pin.   I know you’re all terribly disappointed.

Hope you have a great week!  We just got our building permit for the new construction project I’m on (yea!!), so it should be an eventful week for me as we finally break ground!

Summer Wishlist

5 Jun

For me, this summer is all about mixing crisp neutrals and bold colors. Bright sunlight, long days, barbeques and margaritas on an outdoor patio all welcome bold, cheery shades of yellow, blue, red, and pink. Let it take the stage by pairing it with a neutral base or accessories. As for shapes, I love loose, flowing shapes (such as the pleated skirt below) and wide leg jeans (universally flattering). If you’ve read this blog for a bit, you know I need to throw a blazer in there too because layering structured shapes just happens to be one of my favorite pastimes. While it wouldn’t be needed for an outdoor event, I still love it for inside cold restaurants, shopping centers, and the icebox that is my office. (Anybody else stock their office with winter parkas?)

So what’s on your wishlist this summer? Have you already found something that you LOVE and can’t stop wearing? Send me a picture or a link—I love to find things that are already tried and true!

Weekend at the Ranch

16 May

John and I were introduced to a REAL Texas ranch this weekend. We celebrated a friend’s 30th birthday with barbeque, a bonfire, and some great music. It reminded me that I really need to get some cowboy boots, and maybe even a hat to top it off. John is not so excited about those prospects…but come on, we’ve been here 4 years!

Here’s a glimpse of my casual Friday look.  Am I the only one who thinks that skinny jeans feel like sweatpants? I love them, especially to kick off a relaxing and fun weekend. What’s your go-to casual look?

Love that red hair!

Call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure my favorite model from Lands’ End Canvas is now doing some work for Gap. I’m not crazy, right?! That’s the same girl in both photos…right? Come on, guys, help me out here!

2 – Gap

Have you guys ever checked our Lands’ End Canvas? I’m pretty much in love with their casual, chic style. Go ahead, take a second, check it out! My favorite part is that they show a whole outfit for every item of clothing they sell, so you can get TONS of inspiration! Sadly, I have to admit that I haven’t purchased anything there yet, but I check it all the time to see when things go on sale. Here’s my current favorite look:

I plan to do a re-engineered post for it soon, but right now we need to clear out our office (including internet connection!) in preparation for the wood floor installation. YEA! I love home renovations and am so excited to see the transformation!  Have a great weekend!

Mockup: Socks and Heels

21 Mar

A tie…really, guys?  A tie?!  Thanks for your votes this past weekend on what I should wear to the groundbreaking today.  Alas, it was a tie, so I still ended up making the final decision.  I’ll post some photos later this week, so you can see what I chose!

Moving on…do you remember this post?  I picked up a couple pairs of socks this weekend and decided to try out the ‘socks and heels’ for church on Sunday.  I was pleasantly surprised with the results.  Admittedly, this is a pretty basic outfit, but I’m notoriously late to church on Sundays, so I was proud that I actually got the socks in at all.  Let me know what you think of it—would you try it?

Oh, and last but not least, I wanted to show you a picture of my Saturday morning.  It was a morning of paintballing—fun and intense.  Nothing wakes you up quite like paintballs hurling at you at 200 mph. I even had to photoshop one of the welts out of the Sunday morning photos.
